Many brides would like to have a trial to see how things will come together or just to meet with us and check that we are all ok!

We conduct trials most Monday nights at my house in Rozelle. These are from 6-8pm. You can book a trial by going to the bookings tab and filling in the details. I will then email you back with the next trial date and address. Please note that a trial is designed to have an overview of what will be done on the day and for us to meet and get to know you, and vice versa!. Many factors vary between a trial and the actual day. These include….that you have not been at work all day, you are excited and the adrenalin is pumping and you are refreshed, you have not have hair and makeup already done. Suffice to say…if you are happy with your trial (as 99% of people are!) then you will be blown away on the day!

These are some of the commonly asked questions regarding trials:

Do we trial your whole bridal party?

The trial is just for the bride. If you do want just 1 other person to be trialed, we may be able to do that but it will be dependent on time. If we can, it will be $50 for each service. We definitely cannot do more than 1 extra person. Sometimes the second person just wants one service and thats fine to do just one....but again, I must stress, it is only if we have the available time.

How many people can I bring with me?

You are more than welcome to bring one person that you trust to help you decide (ie mum or sister or best friend!) It is often a good support to have someone that can be vocal for you. Trials are conducted in my house. I have 8 seats and 2 hair chairs and room for 2 in makeup. If 5 brides bring 3 people each (20), theres not enough room. If having everyone watch is something that you need or want, we can arrange to come out to you for your trial and make a party of it!

Can I bring my partner, fiancé, best male friend, father (ie...a boy!)

This can be where I sound like an ass! (sorry- there is no real way to answer this sensitively) For the most part, men generally do not feel comfortable in a small room with up to 20 women in it! (even my husband and sons run from the flock of women! – they hide upstairs every trial night) We have sometimes had men that do wish to stay, and it has tended to make the other brides a little self conscious. There is a pub at both the top of the street if they would like to wait there. If its something that you or your partner definitely want the input in, then we are happy to come to you for a trial where you can both relax in the comfort of your home. I will, politely, invite them to come back when you are finished.

But I want my whole bridal party to be trialed.

We can arrange to come out for the trial for you. The time would be after we have completed any booked wedding that we may have for the day. Please note, however the cost will be the same as it will be for the wedding day.

How may brides do you have at trials?

Due to the fact I have 2 hairdressers plus myself there on trial night, I do need to have a few brides on the same night. This also is why we have discounted prices for our “open house” trials. Generally there are anywhere from 3-5 brides there. Having said that, with the 3 of us working, theses generally not a wait for long.

Why can't I book a time?

Some people arrive early, some late. Rather than keep early people waiting, and rush through late people, we just operate on a first in basis. Please don't think this means its best to come before 6 though! I do not get home from work till 5.45, and I do need a little down time (albeit 15 minutes!) before working all night! It is also a good time around 7.30 when we have completed the 6 pm arrivals.

How long will it take?

Generally around 1 hour per person. Occasionally this can be longer. Hair is generally 45 min and makeup around 20 minutes. Factors that can vary this are depending on the stylist you have, the style that you are interested in. GHDing takes longer that if we roller, you have makeup then come back to hair. If you make changes this too can take longer. This is all not a problem for us to do this, but obviously if it is the person before you doing this, it does impact on you. It is not always a great idea to arrive at 6pm..It can be better to maybe go home and grab a bite and arrive at 7. Some people come straight from work which is good, but if everyone arrives at 6, it takes longer that if some arrive at 7 (if that makes sense!)

Is the person doing the trial the same person I have on my wedding day?

For makeup...yes.I do not have any makeup artists working for me. Barring completely unforeseen circumstances! For example this year I spent all night sitting on Victoria rd when my offices burnt down (pretty horrific), and I was at a wedding the next day (smoky, burnt and pretty shattered). I spend an evening in hospital, ended up in a leg cast , released at midnight at was at my 7am wedding (up 3 flights of stairs!!!) the next day. You get the idea!

Hair....in 80% of the cases yes. Sometimes, the trial is done by one person, but on the day its done by someone else. We do advise you if this will be the situation when we commence your hair. Despite my best efforts to keep everyones dates under control, sometime the hairdressers there on the night will not be free. (Unfortunately they do sometime have commitments that I was not aware of) Rest assured that when this does happen, we will have a hairdresser for you. The hairdressers are there on a rotating basis, and know each others work well, and have no problem in working from the photos that we will take and give you for the day. We can usually advise within 24 hours who your hairdresser will be and they will call you to confirm all details. Alternately, should this be the case, we are happy to have the stylist available come to you for your trial at no additional charge, rather than the stylist there doing the trial. We do appreciate that this is a stressful and very special time for you.

I don't want both services, just hair or just makeup?

No problem!

Booking

We like to work at a trial till you are happy and comfortable with what we have done. We will take all your information and work out when we will arrive on the day as a booking. We do understand that you may be having other trials. The reason we do it this way, is so that we can protect you…..If you do decide to book elsewhere, out of courtesy please let us know as soon as you do, and we will take it out of our diary. I would hate to not have your details, and you phone 4 weeks later confirming, and we have already given your time to someone else, because you had not yet decided.

Cancellations, alterations etc!

Once you have met with your hairdresser then your booking is directly with the hairdresser. The makeup booking is directly with me. You will be given contact details from each of us, and further communication regarding hair must be with the hairdresser and same for makeup. I will not accept a cancellation on behalf of the hairdresser, nor will she for me. We do understand that things happen- maybe a friend wants to do hair or makeup for you. Please do not be concerned that we are only a package deal. If you want to only have one service that's absolutely fine! Cancellations within 1 week of the wedding require full payment of our services. NO EXCEPTIONS.

What should I bring?

Don't worry if you do not have a veil or headpiece, we can easily work around that for you. We now stock a small range of hair pins and tiaras. If possible, please wear minimal makeup to work that day, as it can be hard to remove all makeup before trialing. Also, maybe wear a light colour (if possible), not black to get a good idea of how it will look against the colours you will be wearing on the day. Bring pictures of what you like…it can really help you to explain yourself. Please wash your hair the night before.

Payment Options

You can pay by cash, visa or mastercard for the trial. On the wedding day, you may pay by the same methods for makeup, but the hairdressers will advise their preferred method. Under no circumstances do we take personal cheques, not can I (Kerry) accept payment via credit card for the hair. Please have payment ready on the day.
